Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) is charged with driving the Federal Government of Nigeria’s programme of privatising public enterprises, carrying out sector reforms and liberalization of key economic sectors especially the infrastructure sector.
The organisation constantly gathered data and had a need for most of their applications to be accessible to many users. It was also critical for them to have this data constantly backed up and secure.
The BPE required several servers to aid their daily operations, with some budget constraint and a limited time for execution. The cost of acquiring a physical server was a big challenge to the organisation. There was an option of obtaining virtual machines, but it was necessary to have the virtual machines resident in Nigeria to comply with the NITDA’s local residency policy.
In addition to these, it was also important that they have the
1. Ability to access the cloud portal from any location
2. Ability to access the vDC and the vApps (Power on, Power off, Reset, View Console and interact with guest OS)
3. Ability to monitor service usage and performance metrics via the platform
4. Ability to access Tier-1 and Tier-2 support (support via ticketing) with a <5 hour response time by a pool of shared support representatives and engineers.
The Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) was seeking a CSP with the assurance of excellent service expressed in ease and timely access to support. BPE was seeking a CSP that provided them with access to the cloud portal from any location in addition to the possibilities of effective monitoring of service usage and performance.
The Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) prioritized low latency in compliance with NITDA local residency policy and proven expertise in cloud services in their choice for a CSP.
Layer3Cloud provided BPE with a virtual Data Center (vDC) and Disaster Recovery-as-a-Service (DRaaS). This vDC hosts several VMs with advanced performance monitoring and firewalls that serve as extra layer of security; in addition, a basic load balancer to manage traffic across servers and high availability in form of Disaster Recovery as a Service.
Virtual Private Network (VPN) was provided as a means of secured communication between the machine.
